Samoan Congregation Sustains Ministry Through Reliable Partnership

Samoan Congregational Christian ChurchThe Samoan Congregational Christian Church (SCCC) in Kent, Washington has served its community in the Seattle area since 2001 by “nurturing and fostering Samoan cultural values and traditions in relation with Christian ways of life.”

In the early years, SCCC traded custodial work in exchange for the use of a local senior center as a worship and fellowship space—while renting a nearby home as a parsonage and meeting place for gatherings during the week.

Samoan Congregational Christian ChurchAs SCCC outgrew the house and the senior center began to charge for the use of its space, leaders started looking for a solution. In 2013 when leaders wanted to buy the parsonage property, they called on Disciples Church Extension Fund to secure a loan.

Fortunately, in 2021 the property adjacent to the parsonage came on the market, and SCCC was ready.

Today, the church plans to combine the properties and convert the buildings into a religious and community center, with the help of Disciples Church Extension Fund. Our Building and Financial Services Advisor Rosario Ibarra helped SCCC refinance its loan last year and will support plans to create the center.

Our ability to support congregations as they grow and thrive is made possible by our generous donors.
